1. Who we are

Occassional is the website operated at occassional.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we process when you visit Occassional, use our guides and interactive tools, submit a contact message, or interact with ads and sponsored links on the site.

2. Scope

This policy covers:

• Public pages on occassional.com (home, guides, tools, search, about, contact, legal pages)
• First-party analytics and session measurement used to operate Occassional
• Browser local storage used by Occassional tools (saved ideas, guides, plans, checklists)
• Contact form submissions
• Ads, sponsored recommendations, and outbound links shown on Occassional

This policy does not control the privacy practices of third-party websites you visit after leaving Occassional. Those sites have their own policies.

3. Information we collect

3.1 Automatically collected technical and analytics data

When you visit Occassional, our servers and analytics systems may collect:

• Page path and timestamps
• IP address and a hashed IP identifier used for unique-visitor and session estimates
• Browser user-agent string
• Referrer URL / referrer host when available
• Search-engine name and search query when a search engine still provides that information in the referrer
• UTM campaign parameters when present in the URL (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign)
• On-site search queries you type into Occassional’s search box, plus result counts
• Approximate location derived from IP lookup (city, region/state, country, and ASN/network organization when available)
• Bot/crawler signals used to separate human traffic from automated traffic
• A first-party session identifier cookie (ks_sid) used to count sessions and support live-visit analytics

We use this information to understand which guides and tools are useful, measure traffic sources and keywords, detect abuse/bots, improve the site, and operate domain analytics in our admin tools.

3.2 Information you choose to provide

If you use the contact form, you may provide your name, email address, and message. Those details are stored as a support ticket so we can review and reply on this site. Notification emails are sent from a no-reply address and include a secure link to your ticket.

Please do not send passwords, private keys, payment card numbers, government ID numbers, or other highly sensitive secrets through the contact form.

3.3 Information stored only in your browser

Some Occassional tools store data in your browser’s local storage on your device, including:

• Saved ideas
• Saved guides
• Saved weekend plans
• Checklist builder contents and checked state

That local data stays on your device unless you clear site data in your browser. Occassional does not sync those saved lists to an account, because Occassional does not currently require user accounts or logins.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

Occassional uses a first-party cookie named ks_sid to maintain an anonymous session identifier. It is set with path /, HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax, and Secure when the site is served over HTTPS. The cookie may persist for up to about one year unless you clear cookies earlier.

Your browser may also store Occassional local-storage keys used by tools (for example saved ideas, guides, plans, and checklists).

If third-party ad networks or analytics partners are active on Occassional (including Google Ads or similar advertising partners), those partners may set or read their own cookies or similar identifiers according to their policies. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may affect session measurement or some site features.

5. How we use information

We use the information described above to:

• Operate, secure, and improve Occassional
• Measure pageviews, unique visitors, referrers, search keywords, and on-site searches
• Understand approximate visitor geography for analytics
• Detect bots, abuse, and technical problems
• Respond to contact messages

Occassional may display advertising and sponsored recommendations, including links to our related projects and third-party advertisers. Clicking an ad or sponsored link may send you to another website. Occassional is not responsible for the privacy practices of those destinations. Review their policies before providing personal information there.

If Google Ads or Google AdSense is used on Occassional, Google may use cookies or similar technologies. You can learn more in Google’s advertising and privacy documentation and manage ad personalization through your Google account or browser controls where available.

7. Sharing of information

We may share limited information with:

• Service providers that help us host the site, store logs/databases, look up approximate GeoIP data, deliver email, or provide security/infrastructure
• Advertising partners when ads are shown, as needed to serve and measure ads
• Legal and safety recipients when required by law, court order, or to protect Occassional, our users, or the public from fraud, abuse, or security threats

We do not rent or sell personal contact information for third-party marketing lists.

8. Data retention

Analytics records (pageviews, sessions, searches, referrers, and related technical fields) are retained as long as reasonably needed for operating analytics, security review, reporting, and site improvement, unless a shorter period is later configured.

Contact messages and related logs may be retained as long as needed to respond, keep a record of correspondence, and protect against abuse.

Browser local-storage data remains on your device until you clear it.

9. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect Occassional systems and data. No website or internet transmission is completely secure. Please use a current browser, be careful with links, and do not send sensitive secrets through contact forms.

10. International visitors

Occassional may be hosted and administered in the United States. If you visit from another country, your information may be processed in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate. Those locations may have different data-protection laws than your home country.

11. Children’s privacy

Occassional is a general-audience lifestyle guides and tools site. It is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided personal information to us, use the contact form and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

12. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or more information about personal data we hold about you. To make a request, use the contact form and describe your request. We may need to verify the request before acting on it.

You can also:

• Clear cookies and site data in your browser (this removes ks_sid and local saved lists)
• Use browser controls or extensions that limit third-party cookies or tracking
• Choose not to use the contact form
• Avoid clicking ads or sponsored links if you prefer not to visit those destinations

Because Occassional does not currently offer user accounts, many preferences are controlled through your browser rather than an in-site account settings page.

13. Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control

Browsers may send “Do Not Track” or similar signals. There is no common industry standard for responding to every such signal. Occassional’s first-party analytics and essential session cookie may continue to operate for site function and internal measurement. Where required by law, we will update our practices and this policy.

14. Third-party links and tools

Guides and tools may mention third-party products, places, services, or websites. Links are provided for convenience and information. Occassional does not control those third parties and is not responsible for their content, availability, or privacy practices.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Occassional features, advertising, analytics, or legal requirements change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Continued use of Occassional after an update means you have had notice of the revised policy.
